What is the future for the next generation?

Fewer than 10% of children in the UK will ever hear the hope and life-changing message of Jesus. Many are growing up feeling lost and without worth, confused in a world of fake news and competing voices, searching for identity, belonging and purpose, and wondering which way will actually lead them to fullness of life and peace. All of this is happening without ever being given the opportunity to hear the Christian message.

The SCM Schools project in partnership with Southampton churches, joins with primary and secondary schools to share the good news of Jesus in a relevant, engaging, and age-appropriate way, giving every child the chance to explore the hope, love, and purpose found in Christ.

A child who knows they are deeply loved is more likely to become a young person who values others, makes wise choices and faces life's challenges with hope. That's why we are committed to working in schools.

How the SCM Schools programme works

Through engaging and curriculum-based Religious Education lessons, we create safe, engaging spaces where children can explore the Christian faith, ask honest questions and discover that they are known and loved by God.  It helps them embrace respect, kindness and compassion for others.

We also get the opportunity to equip teachers, multiplying the impact long after we've left the classroom.

Once children truly understand how precious they are, it helps them build their life on hope rather than fear.

A story from our Schools work…

What do I mean to God?

In a Year 5 PSHE session, our schools worker, Ellie, encouraged pupils to think about faith, relationships, forgiveness, self-worth and what it means to be loved and valued.

A simple question on a child’s Learning Journal captured something far deeper than the day's lesson: "What do I mean to God? Does God know who I am?". Behind those few words was a child curious and longing to know if they were seen, known, and loved. The lesson suddenly took on something much deeper than knowledge, it became about personal connection with what they were learning. Together, the class explored the Christian belief that every person is precious to God, deeply loved, and created with purpose.

At the end of the day, the same child came back to Ellie wanting to know more. It was a beautiful reminder that when children are given the space to ask life's biggest questions, they often reveal the deepest longings of their hearts and sometimes a single conversation can become the beginning of a completely new story.

Assemblies

Our Schools Team love to lead Assemblies and Collective Worship in schools; in fact our schools work actually began with an Assembly in a local Primary School almost 30 years ago!


CAP Money

CAP Money has been developed with teachers to equip the next generation with essential skills to ensure they are wise about money in the future.



GROW Communities

'Grow Communities' were born out of both pupils and staff expressing that 'Question of Faith' RE sessions didn't always allow more in-depth exploration of faith and spirituality and they wanted that opportunity.


Prayer Spaces

Prayer spaces enable children and young people, of all faiths and none, to explore life’s questions, spirituality and faith in a safe, creative, and interactive way.


Question of Faith

RE can be one of the most interesting & important parts of the curriculum! Because what we choose to believe about ourselves, those around us, and the world at large, can significantly impact our whole lives.


Transition Support

The move from Year 6 to Year 7 can be an exciting, yet challenging, and even daunting time for many pupils. We can help children to feel safe, ready and emotionally prepared.
