Volunteer

Thank you so much to everyone who volunteers with SCM. We are extremely grateful for your support!

At the moment we are looking for fit & healthy volunteers to work with us as Van Drivers and Driver’s Mates, which would involve just one day a week, as well as members of some of our Basics Bank, Marketplace, and Schools teams.

What we offer to Volunteers:

  • Taster days, training, support and oversight in their roles.

  • Flexibility of commitment: some roles are once a week, some when you find yourself free!

  • Travelling and subsistence expenses.

  • A great team atmosphere, working with a variety of people.

  • Rewarding opportunities to make a real difference to people in our community.

SCM Food Projects

Basics Bank Food Venues

Food sorting, stacking and making up food parcels, talking to clients, making drinks. (The role does involve lifting of moderately heavy crates.)

Weekdays between 9.15 and 3.30

Basics Bank Clothes Venue

Clothes donations sorting, hanging and displaying, talking to clients helping them find what they are looking for, making drinks.

Fridays 10 till 2.30

Marketplace Stock team

Responsible for putting away food deliveries and restocking shelves.

Responsible for welcoming members, serving tea & coffee, assisting in the food area, and helping to set up & pack down.

SCM Van Team

Basics Bank Driver and Drivers Mate

Picking up the Basics Bank van, following a daily route of pickups and deliveries, restocking the Basics Banks.  (Some moderate lifting and moving of food crates involved)

Weekdays – Regular and backup roles available   

Marketplace Driver and Drivers Mate

Picking up the Marketplace van, following a daily route of pickups and deliveries to the Marketplace projects, as well as occasional collections.  (Some moderate lifting and moving of food crates involved)

SCM Schools

Schools Team Volunteer

Helping with games, crafts, stories and activities in a school on an SCM ‘Question of Faith’ day.

We are a deliberately small charity, trying to maintain a small footprint by helping to create opportunities and equip others to do the work of God’s Kingdom. This means that for the bulk or our work we depend on our brilliant, diverse and hard working team of volunteers. In the same way that we are committed to providing help for anyone in need regardless of their background, belief, or outlook, we welcome volunteers from any background, belief, or outlook, as long as they themselves are happy with the Christian ethos of our charity. Of course, with specific volunteering roles such as helping to teach a Christian perspective on RE in schools, offering prayer to someone in need, or leading team devotions, we would only be asking trained and vetted Christian volunteers to undertake these tasks.
