Gathering and Sorting the Harvest at the SCM warehouse
For the teams at Southampton City Mission, Harvest is a very busy time with vans visiting schools and churches collecting crates of food that will be distributed to those in need throughout the city. The terms “hectic and manic” are often to be heard in our warehouse on a daily basis, as yet another van arrives with a new Harvest collection. It’s a wonderful atmosphere!
As I write, we have received 408 crates of food with two weeks of the Harvest season left to run; the generosity of school children and their families, teachers, and church goers has been amazing, and we are so grateful for their support. Every item of food collected will be sent out to our food projects in the coming weeks.
Of course, crates of food have to be sorted before they are delivered to our 5 Basics (Food) Banks and 4 Marketplaces in the city. Here again we have been really blessed with support from a range of local companies sending staff to our warehouse in Millbrook to help sort the food into their respective categories. So a massive thank you to Aviva, HSBC, Collinson Insurance, and Marks & Spencer Bank for their support, which is really appreciated.
The SCM team continue to be very busy over this Harvest period, but it is a ‘nice busy! It is such a privilege to partner with the local churches, schools and businesses knowing that we are all helping local people in Southampton who maybe struggling in their daily lives. A massive thank you to everyone for their support. God bless you all.
