Food Banks

Food Banks

When a referral agent issues a client with one of our vouchers, they can bring it in to any of the food bank venues when they are open, to exchange it for up to 5 days of food for the people provided for on the voucher.

This will be a mix of tinned, packets and boxed food as well as fresh produce when we have it available. We ask clients at the time about any special dietary requirements and try to meet those needs as far as our limited stock allows us to. Unfortunately we are unable to provide any transport so clients need to bear in mind they may well have several heavy bags as they leave us!

Our fresh produce comes from Sainsburys Hedge End who very generously allow us to collect produce, which is past its sell by date but not past its use by date, twice a week with our Basics Bank van. It also comes from another generous sponsor who buys us fresh fruit and veg at St Marys market once a week.

All of the non-perishable food, which make up the bulk of our food parcels, is also donated by very generous people from all over the city.

Our staff and volunteers will be on hand to offer a cuppa and a chat while the food parcels are being prepared.

Please see our donation pages to find out how you can donate food to our projects.

If we had to buy the food that we give out it would cost us:
£42.89 to buy 5 days of food for a family of 4 people
£19.55 to buy 5 days of food for a single person.
